Panic-buys of masks, bleach and every sanitary supply possible has put Hong Kongers in despair. So as one of the most reliable media outlets in the city, Yahoo HK hopes to send positivity by riding the tough tides with its audience with a Yahoo App-exclusive redemption for its members.
Yahoo App free mask distribution for members
Up for redemption were more than 20,000 masks for both adults and children along with other disinfectants and sanitizers from brands like LABO, Konix, Moiadore and 3M, to name but a few. These goodies could be exchanged by YPoints, which members receive upon creating an account and by accumulating through regular interactions such as participating in polls, following groups or watching videos. For instance, pack of five masks could be exchanged for a mere 200 points, which is the welcome offer for new members.
Joint hands with the Hong Kong Family Welfare Society, Yahoo HK also set up physical Donation Zones whereby people could donate excess supplies to low-income families and solitary seniors in need . On top of these donations, Yahoo HK also pays it forward with 500 Anti-Epidemic Packs comprising five medical-grade masks, a bottle of bleach, a bottle of alcohol hand sanitizer and one air-conditioning cleaning filter.
The programme was rolling out in phases, in which surgical masks and sanitising products were up in the App for redemption on a weekly basis since late February, and each phase was cleared out within seconds.
We stand with the needs of Hong Kongers
After the first phase of redemption, some members expressed difficulty in parts of the redemption and member-verification processes, so Yahoo HK reacted quickly and launched a redemption how-to video to clear up any questions.
We will continue to stand united with Hong Kongers and bring positivity to our users in this fight against Covid-19.
