Yahoo Launches Studio for ultimate Video Experience

Yahoo Studio in Hong Kong

According to Hubspot's Video Trend 2019, more than 80% of today's audience prefers live video to blog or social posts; while more than 95% of consumers thought videos were helpful when making purchase decisions. As well, video is going VR with over 350 exhibitors featuring augmented and virtual reality products in the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018.¹

Video is evolving, and so is Yahoo with its latest launch: Yahoo Studio in Hong Kong.

Yahoo Studio Cargo

Designed to be a space where our advertisers and partners can unleash their creativity, Yahoo Studio is an initiative that's spread across the US, Taiwan, Australia, Singapore, UK and France. In Hong Kong, specifically, it will house homegrown Yahoo Live programs, where our Finance, Style and Engadget teams are ready to share latest tips and trends alongside a new music program that's set to launch later this year.

Yahoo Studio Live Programs

Also in the Yahoo Studio line up are interviews, live performances and see-now-buy-now shows shot in professional, high-quality 3D Virtual Settings, in which the host will seem like they're really on set when complemented with realistic motion graphics.

Finally, the star of Hong Kong's Yahoo Studio to be released soon is a never-before-seen virtual character, which aims to turn video from a one-way to an interactive medium. The character will serve as Yahoo's Virtual Celebrity, and a co-host of its TV programs, mainly to get closer with Hong Kong users and enhance overall user experience via more fun interaction.

This undeniable trend of virtual characters, especially in Asia, is exemplified by the popularity of Yahoo Taiwan's creation, Hoonie (虎妮), who saw her debut mid-2017 as Yahoo's Vtuber and TV host. Since then, she's garnered more than 20,000 followers in social and nearly 18,000 youtube subscribers with her 160-plus videos on her YouTube channel, "Hoonie friends". Aside from eSports live broadcast in the channel, Hoonie also conducts celebrity interviews, product reviews and more – all of which are paired with live chats with her fans.
